Upcoming Events

Below you can find information about upcoming events the group is planning to attend. Many of these will be open to the public, so will be a perfect day out if you’d like to come along and meet our legionaries, learn about the Roman army, and get to have a look at some of the objects up close and personal. At larger multi-period events, we will also be camped next to other re-enactors, usually from the Greek period all the way up to World War 2, at a weekend full of action-packed arena displays with plenty to see and do.

Malton Museum Roman Festival 2023

A Roman Festival held in Malton by the Malton Roman Museum, now in the second year with more attractions and re-enactors!
Petuaria Revisted 2023

In 2021, Petuaria (Brough) saw the Romans return for the first time in over a millenia for the inaugural Petuaria Revisited Roman Festival. In 2023, we are back once more.

Britannia

Britannia are one of the UK's oldest re-enactment societies, combining battle re-enactment and living history to produce engaging and educational displays for the public, including clothing, medicine, transport, diet, and military equipment, and some group members are credited with producing research publications concerning the ancient world.

The Barcarii

The Barcarii

The Barcarii is a one-man group devoted to exploring and re-creating the life of late Roman marine forces on the northern coastal frontier of Britain. Founded and manned by historical author Francis Hagan, the Barcarii represent the Numerus Barcariorum Tigrisiensium - roughly ‘the marines from Tigris’ - and produce displays of the weapons, armour, tools, and crafts of the naval forces of the 4th century.

He is passionate about creating images to present the incredible work and creations of dedicated individuals in their best light, and his focus is on ensuring the subject has overall control of the scenes portrayed in order to produce the most authentic final image possible.

Legio VIII Augusta

Legio VIII Augusta

Based in Wales and North West England, the eighth legion Augusta depict both Roman legionaries and the people of Roman Britain at the onset of the 2nd Century AD. A group of veteran re-enactors specialising in military drill, the group presents engaging military displays including formation work, kit breakdowns, and demonstrations of fully-functional artillery maintained and operated by group members.

Roman Tours/Legio XX

Roman Tours/Legio XX

Established in 1997, this team of hard-working and dedicated re-enactors provide city tours of Chester, educational outreach and historical events across the U.K. They also have a re-enactment group in the XX Legion Deva Victrix, representing legionaries and auxiliaries stationed in Britain during the Principate.
