Joint operations with VIII Augusta - No Man's Land 2023

Magister Militum were privileged to attend the No Man's Land Multi-Period event alongside our old friends from the VIII Augusta

Alongside our friends from the Legio VIII Augusta Living History Society, our contingent that descended upon Bodrhyddan Hall in Rhyll, Wales, for the 2023 Easter Bank Holiday took to the arena to show off some of the equipment of the late Roman legion.

The VIII were also kind enough to let to take part in the artillery demonstration, with our team crewing the smaller Xanten ballista while the experienced VIII crew handled the larger piece. This quickly devolved into friendly competition between the two crews, with the VIII proving the faster shooters but the MM team taking the gold medal for accuracy thanks to the careful aim of group member Daniel (usually our vexillarius, now considering a career as a ballistarius instead!).

The event was a tremendous success as per usual, and it was fantastic to hang out with some old friends to kick the season off in style.

Here's hoping to more events with the VIII over the coming months (perhaps to settle the score on the artillery competition!), and keep your eyes open for coming blog posts this week showcasing more detailed photographs of our members.
